Excellent book written by 50 different authors with 50 different viewpoints. Margaret Atwood contributes!
I got this book because I've herd a lot about it, people have told me how wonderful and needed feminism is. I thought I would educate myself a bit more on the topic. This book was extremely disappointing to me, crushing my thoughts of ever wanting to be a feminist. I found the book repetitive with no real substance. All of the arguments in the book could be quickly debunked by simply applying some logical thinking. I was hoping this book would open me up to the secret of why women still stand ferociously by feminism in the western world, but I found that it did little more than complain about a privileged, free life where I can see no oppression. The only good points in the book were when they talked about the mistreatment of women in the Middle East, something I find horrible. However the book airbrushed over these topics choseing to focus more on minutely small problems in the western world that can barely be called sexism and are quickly countered. In conclusion, I did not enjoy this book. If this is what feminism is now, I'm sorry to say that I am no longer willing to call myself a feminist.
No one should miss the opportunity to read the excellent contributions in this book. Lots of intelligent, thoughtful writing. An important volume
