This is a mystery and love story all in one. Brooke Justice and Mike Hartman have each moved to Adams Grove to escape troubled pasts. When Brooke’s ex-husband starts to harass her she calls on Mike, a private investigator, to help her catch him at it. The two have a strong emotional connection and are a terrific match, but will they live long enough to find love together? The writing is first rate and I read it very quickly. The author writes with a great tone and superb wit. Here’s an example; “… like divorce was a kiddy slide to take with your hands up in the air – grabbing divorce papers and your maiden name on the way down.”
Highly recommend this if you like a fun well told story with great suspense and a “country girl” setting.

Mint Juleps and Justice An Adams Grove Novel Nancy Naigle 9781477849477 Books Reviews
If you like small town romantic suspense, Nancy Naigle is the author for you. She is able to combine sweet love stories with unnerving suspense. The way she is able to write the points of view from the hero and heroine to the psychotic villains is astounding to me. Mint Juleps and Justice is the fifth book in her Adams Grove series. It can easily be read as a stand alone but will make you want to read all the other books once you start this one.
Mint Juleps and Justice follows Mike and Brooke. They are both relatively new to Adams Grove trying to start over after some tragic events in their lives. Brooke turns to Mike's investigative skills to help her deal with an ex-husband. Little did she know that the biggest adventure of her life would start. Nancy does a really good job at creating stories that you think will be predictable only to turn out anything but. When I started Mint Juleps and Justice I thought we would have a similar mystery to her previous books in trying to find out who the villain was going to be. Well, she gave those to us right away and didn't hide it. That almost makes for more suspense since we knew they are lurking and are going to pounce at any minute.
I am a wimp when it comes to the villain's point of view in a story. I know a little of Nancy via social media and am surprised that she is able to pull off the creepiness that is the antagonist in this story. I wanted to skip all of Goto's pages because it made me so uncomfortable. Well done, Nancy. But, being inside the head of the crazy dude shows us just how much danger he is to Mike and Brooke.
The romance between Mike and Brooke was a little frustrating to me. Not the writing of it, but as characters, they made me angry and I wanted to slap them both at times. They kept finding reasons to put up walls when they got scared or hurt. I know they had their reasons, but everyone else could see they were good together, so I found myself huffing a bit at their nonsense from time to time. It worked in the end so I am satisfied.
Mint Juleps and Justice is an emotional romantic suspense story that will have you on the edge of your seat one minute and then caught up in sweet romance and friendship another. You almost forget that there is a killer on the loose! If you like small town romantic suspense, I recommend that you give Mint Juleps and Justice a try!
Mike and Brooke have enough baggage between them to fill a fleet of jetliners. Between Brooke's nasty divorce and the murder of Mike's wife eight years ago, the odds are seemingly stacked against them from the start.
One thing I love about Mint Juleps and Justice is this - the characters are REAL. Brooke Justice has a real job where she interacts with real people, and has a real fun quirk of believing in good luck signs almost religiously. Mike is a former Marine who is trying to balance himself back into civilian life by running a small-town investigative firm, and giving a military pup its first year of training.
Brooke's job throws them together from day one, and in a small town, chance encounters are bound to happen on a frequent basis once you've met someone face to face. The "chance" encounters turn purposeful when Brooke's baggage forces her to seek the aid of Mike's investigative services.
However, just when things were finally getting settled for Brooke and she begins to gain confidence in her ability to have a relationship with Mike, Mike's world gets turned up-side-down when he finds out, two months after the fact, that the baggage he thought himself finally ready to let go of and move forward from has once again reared its ugly head.
Without going into too many details, the progression of the story - both the main story between Brooke and Mike, and the plots surrounding each of their individual baggage - is fluid and keeps the reader engaged. The only thing keeping me from giving this book a full 5-star review is this - I simply do not like being clued into certain things before the characters are, which is the case with Mike's baggage.
Overall, it's a nice, easy read. It's real people engaging in a real relationship with real problems that can only be overcome together. It's a story I can relate to, and that just makes it all the more engaging.
